About the SAML2 Tableau Guide
This guide explains how to add SurePassID multi-factor authentication (MFA) to Tableau via SAML2 to meet your organization’s security needs. The purpose of this guide is to provide a reference for system administrators of the SurePassID system.
Two steps are required. The first step is to enable SAML2 support within Tableau. The second step is to configure SurePassID as a SAML2 IdP (Identity Provider) for Tableau within the SurePassID admin console.
Enabling SAML2 in Tableau
Log into Tableau.
Select Settings from the left menu bar and select Authentication from tab.
Check Enable an additional authentication method.
Select SAML as the authentication method.
Follow the processing steps as documented in Tableau:
Select Method 1: Export metadata – Click Export Metadata. The Metadata file that is created will be imported into SurePassID later.
Configure IdP. This will be done in the SurePassID admin console.
Configuring SurePassID as a SAML2 IdP for Tableau
Open a new browser tab. Use it to log into the SurePassID admin console with your administrator account. Select the SSO Tab.
Select the New SAML2 App and press the Upload Metadata. Select the Tableau metadata file you downloaded in the previous step. Add custom attributes for FirstName, LastName and click the Add button.
Press the Close button to return to the previous form.
Click the Identity Provider SAML2 Meta Data link. This will show the SAML2 metadata for Tableau. Save the metadata to a file.
Switch back to the Tableau browser tab.
Press the Choose a File button and select the SurePassID metadata file you exported from SurePassID.
The IdP entity Id and IdP SSO service URL will be updated as shown.
Save your changes. You can now test the SAML2 configuration.
You are done. If desired, you can also specify attributes in SurePassID and Tableau.
